Last month we talked about what happens at a hearing aid fitting appointment. These appointments happen when your hearing aids are ready. They give the audiologist a chance to show you how they work and how to care for them. They also need to make sure they are comfortable to wear so you’ll be encouraged to wear them. And, most importantly, they need to ensure they fit you well.

What’s so important about fitting you well? The reason this is important is because hearing aids are a complex device designed to deliver just the right amount–and the best quality–of sound to your ear. Part of the testing that is done at the fitting appointment is to find out what sounds are in the softer range at your level of hearing, and which are in the louder range. Your hearing aids are then calibrated to effectively boost the softer sounds and dampen the louder ones.

In order to provide the most accurate, most comfortable listening experience, it is crucial that your hearing aids fit your ears and are attuned to your personal level of hearing loss. If they don’t fit well, your ability to hear will be compromised and you may find it insufficient or uncomfortable.

Your first hearing aid fitting will be longer because of how important it is to get this step right. Afterward there may be tiny adjustments necessary to tweak things here and there, but these will be much shorter. When they are fully adjusted and fitting you well, you will receive the best level and quality of sound. Then you can fully enjoy the benefits of your new hearing aids.

Puretone Hearing Clinic is currently booking hearing aid fittings at three convenient locations throughout Metro Vancouver.
